Avoid tourist traps and head out to the restaurants that matter along the gorgeous banks of the Vltava River. Here are our favourites.
Snaking along the city is one of Prague’s most iconic features; the Vltava River. Like any other beautiful touristic area, finding the best places while avoiding the tourist traps requires a certain level of expertise. Thankfully, there are several top-notch eateries that aren’t too hard to find so we set out on a quest to discover some of Prague’s best riverside restaurants, and here’s what we’ve found out so far.
Parnas
Specialising in local cuisine, Parnas is considered as authentic as the Vltava itself. Offering a delicious tasting menu, it’s highly recommended to grab a seat by one of the large windows to enjoy views of Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, and the wide river, while enjoying some of the finest delicacies the city has to offer. Established over 140 years ago in the basement of the Lažanský Palace, this restaurant is reminiscent of an older Prague with its wooden panelling, marble features, and a grand piano complete with serenading pianist.
Bellevue
Just as the name alludes, the Bellevue enjoys an enviable waterfront location overlooking Prague Castle and the famous Charles Bridge. Despite its touristy appearance, this restaurant’s kitchen knows what it’s doing. Ask for the lightly smoked venison saddle, or perhaps Guinea fowl breast stuffed with truffles, and complement the lot with one of the South Moravian vintages available. As the saying goes, never judge a book by its cover.
Strelecky Ostrov
Perched on the far end of an island within the Vltava, Strelecky Ostrov knows what prime location really means. If you’re in the mood to dine alfresco, a terrace table will guarantee picturesque views of the National Theatre and the hills of Petřín, however if you’d rather stay inside, we suggest retreating into the dining room or the intimate cellar bar for authentic beef goulash or the traditional fried carp.
Kampa Park
Hailing from the creative portfolio of Norwegian restauranteur Nils Jeben, this gorgeous eatery is located along the riverbanks of Prague’s Lesser District. Drawing in the great and the good, Kampa Park offers luxurious, experimental cuisine that include delicacies such as veal tartar with black truffle aioli and a duo of Canadian lobster served au gratin with truffles and mango.
Hergetova Chilená
Another brainchild of Jeben, Hergetova Cihelná is considered Kampa Park’s stylish younger sister. Located within an abandoned brick factory by the river’s banks, you’ll expect to find a casual pizzeria on the higher floor, with a restaurant that specialises in Czech fusion cuisine beneath. Known as one of Prague’s best restaurants, this stylish eatery takes dining to another level during the summer months, offering several international DJ acts on the terrace outside.
Soho+
Perched right on the water’s edge, Soho+ is where the city ends, and nature begins. Adorned with flowers, plants, and topiaries, along with a sprinkling of edible flowers in most of their plates, Soho+ is definitely one of the dining rooms to keep an eye out for. Served under a spray of white branches, this restaurant offers artful and creative cuisine, all served alongside a unique river vista.
La Terrassa
Look up Prague’s best restaurants in any guidebook and the Spanish-themed La Terrassa is definitely going to be featured there. Enjoy traditional Spanish tapas and Iberian-themed main courses that include garlic prawns and grilled octopus. Enjoy a view of the boats bobbing along the river whilst dining out on the sunny terrace, while taking in the new baroque charm of the Dancing Houses located right across the river.
Mlýnec
Bringing together elegant décor and outstanding views, Mlýnec is considered one of the best restaurants in Prague. Enjoy the open ravioli with lobster and mussels, or a selection of Czech cheeses whilst taking in all of the romance of Charles Bridge at night. This restaurant belongs to Chef Marek Šáda who is known for his work in both New York and San Francisco.
Ginger & Fred
An architectural testimony to the world’s most famous jiving duo Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Ginger & Fred offers foodies a selection of dishes from across the world – including a new take on classic dishes such as classic ribs marinated in Coca Cola. And, seeing as it’s situated on the top floor of the quirky Dancing House building, all dishes are accompanied by a serving of glorious riverside views.
