Following the demolition of its ramparts and fortifications, the southern slope beneath Prague Castle became an area of gardens, firstly vineyards and Italian-style Renaissance gardens. After Swedish incursions in 1648, the gardens changed again to take on a baroque air, complete with terraces, sculptures, impressive steps and fountains. A popular - indeed unmissable - place for a summer stroll, visitors can take in the views of Prague`s Malá Strana (Lesser Town) and a panorama of the city.
